Eradicating thought

In many Eastern philosophies, thought is described as something that obscures the truth. Something to quiet, to eradicate, leaving only pure experience of reality as it is. That is why some people meditate, to quiet the mind.

But this also is a mistake, to my mind. Thought is itself a natural phenomenon just as "belonging to reality" as the wind, the sun, the ground you walk on.

I think that if one recognize that thought also is something to be experienced, to be enjoyed, to witness just in the same way as one witness anything else one loves, thought ceases to be a problem.

Not something to be eradicated, but something to delight in. Like the sun on ones skin, or the feeling of the wind on ones face, thought also is a natural phenomenon, that belongs.

But if one attempts to control thought, it becomes something difficult. A problem. Thought should be observed, like one observes a beautiful landscape. It should be cultivated, like an artist adds strokes to a painting.

Eventually, one might paint a masterpiece. Thought is an art.
