Clay Angels

To try to uncover "the truth" is rather like sculpting a piece of clay. Remove something here, something there. Bring out the lines, uncover the angel in the clay. It might look beautiful, pure, true.

But at the end of the day, it's just a sculpture you made. The truth was the piece of clay, unsculpted, raw, complete and full.

We all have our clay angels. None of them look the same, but all of them are crafted from the same piece of clay.

In the same way, we also sculpt ourselves from this clay. I might think I am a male, a nursing student, a brother, a son, a boyfriend. I might think myself a clever man, or a fool. I might think myself beautiful or ugly. These beliefs constitute the ego and it is not the truth.

I am the clay.
